Formerly called “custody”, is defined as making major decisions regarding the children’s health care, religion or spirituality, and education.
Decision-making is not about where the child lives. For example,a party may have sole decision-making responsibility of their child, however, the child may live equally with both parents.
Following are the types of decision-making responsibility:
- Sole decision-making;
- Joint decision-making;
- Shared decision-making;
- Parallel or split decision-making responsibility.
Like parenting time, when determining decision-making responsibility the Courts look at the best interest of the child(ren).
